Mt. Mitake, a sacred peak near Tokyo, is famed for its summer wildflower―rengetsushōma. With its delicate, nodding lavender blooms, it is called the “fairy of the forest.” Around 50,000 plants grow here, forming the largest colony in the Kanto region. From late July to late August, the Mitake Rengetsushōma Festival draws crowds eager to see this rare spectacle.
